Korean Film Festival is the longest running film festival dedicated to Korean Cinema bringing diverse lineup of award-winning Korean films in the Philippines. It's a month long festival shown in four key locations around the country, namely, Davao, Ilo-Ilo, Cebu, and the country's capital, Manila. It's a well-known event especially for Korean Culture Enthusiasts who wishes to see these sought-after films for free. Thousands of movie-goers participate in the event annually.

The Challenge

The director of the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines aren't satisfied with the initial design submitted by their in-house designer, which then led to his decision to ask us, other designers, to submit other design concepts for the year's Korean Film Festival.

The theme of the film festival is "Strings of Affinity" which highlights the depth of human relationship. They wanted to go with a more traditional Korean look with hints of their main color, yellow.

The Solution

Among five graphic designers who submitted their concept, this design was chosen as the most appropriate for the year's theme "Strings of Affinity". The overall poster design is based on keeping the traditional Korean look with a play of toned down colors. Movie posters have the faded effect to make them seem like distant memories. There's also an illustration of a traditional Korean Village in the background which is a place every family has a certain affinity of.
